February Coach's Spotlight - Meet John David (JD)

Meet John David (JD) Chacon. JD enjoys coaching athletes as they pursue their fitness goals, and he has a valuable role in each athlete's success as part of the Paragon team. As 'the fun coach,' JD has helped the team grow and improve over the last year and a half, balancing humor and skillful instruction on the pool deck. JD coaches Paragon's homeschool USA Swim Club, the masters swim group, and the UTSA Tri Club swimming practices. He also assists Paragon in other training functions, such as the recent Spring Training Camp. So next time you see JD, thank him for all of those sets he makes you swim! You'll be a better swimmer for it.

Age: 20

Grade or occupation: Sophomore in college, Paragon Coach, and cashier at H-E-B

How long have you been swimming, cycling, running, or doing triathlons? I have been swimming since Freshmen year of Highschool! Running was my family's main sport, so I started that in the 5th or 6th grade. Running alongside my much older brother was always a joy. I have yet to do any triathlons!

Why do you like doing triathlons? I love seeing improvement, and the encouragement it brings to individuals.

What has been your most proud moment as a coach? That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say that when any of my swimmers throw up theirs hands in excitement after a race. It is pretty darn cool to watch. They put the effort in, and that effort pays off!

Favorite post-workout or race meal: A big juicy burger. Pile some bacon and cheese on too that and I will love you!

What do you want to be when you grow up? That’s still up in the air. Too many things too do, without enough time!

What is something no one knows about you? If I told you, I’d have to kill you.

Make sure to send your pictures from training and racing to: racing@paragontraining.org so we can showcase all the rad stuff you guys do.
