August Athlete Spotlight - Meet Diana Ruderman

Meet Diana Ruderman, also known as TriDiana. Last month, she was racing top athletes in Denmark for the ITU Aquabike World Championship. She's always looking forward to the next race, training as if she was preparing for an Ironman. Quiet, yet fierce, Diana is a Tri Warrior through and through.

Age: 48

Occupation: I currently have 23 years in the education field. I’m in my 5th year teaching elementary PE. Before that, I taught middle school PE, Math, and Science. Ive coached volleyball, basketball, tennis, and track.

How long have you been doing triathlons? In my 30’s, I started doing duathlons because I didn’t know how to swim. Then in my mid-30’s, I learned how to swim, although with horrible form. I did a ton of sprint tris. In 2014, I gave a 70.3 a try and have been hooked on this distance ever since.

Why do you like triathlons? I actually dislike swimming. I focus on it the most, since it’s my weakest discipline. I swam over 14,000 yards one week last month. I love biking because it’s my strength, and running is a close second. I started out as a runner in elementary school. I’ve ran/competed in all distances, but my favorite has to be half marathons.

Favorite post-workout or race meal: I really don’t have a favorite post-workout meal because I’m never hungry after working out or racing. I usually force myself drink a high protein drink and eat a banana.

Tell us something no one knows about you: When I was a teenager, I used to be a cowgirl who competed in rodeos. I loved barrel racing and goat tying events.

Make sure to send your pictures from training and racing to: racing@paragontraining.org so we can showcase all the rad stuff you guys do.
