This past Saturday, Diana Ruderman and Raul Correa raced Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta in California. Another Ironman 70.3 is in the books.
Ruderman reports that the race was cold. Competitors rolled off the sandy beach into a chilly, 57-degree Lake Cahuilla. At 48 degrees air temp, coming out of the water wasn't very welcoming to Ruderman or Correa. Both still had great races despite the cold and longer transitions. Correa came into the finish at 5:31:55 and Ruderman finished in 5:32:25.
The bike course took athletes through the countryside with gorgeous views of the Santa Rosa mountains and palm tree farms. Next, runners hopped on the nearby golf course for two loops before heading down the finish shoot. It is a rolling but relatively flat course, with less than 800 ft of elevation gain on the bike and about 450 ft on the run. Nearly 2,200 people finished the race.
