Koch Finishes 31st at Ironman 70.3 World Championship

On a hilly course in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Allison Koch raced her way to 31st place in the 18-24 age group at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship on Saturday. Nearly 1500 women entered the water for the World Championship event that now separates the men's and women's races into two different days. The venue used for this years race was a challenging one featuring a river swim against the current, a bike course with a 3.5 mile, 900 foot climb in the first 10 miles and 3000 feet of climbing overall, and a scenic run course with non-stop undulations and another 900 feet of elevation gain. Koch used her bike prowess to move from 50th overall after the swim to a top 25 position as she started the run. She slipped a few places in the latter stages of the run but fought for every position and held on to finish in 31st place, beating 32nd by a single second. Click here to see full results.

Koch will race again this coming weekend at the Texas State Road Race Championships on Saturday and the first race of the 2017-2018 SMW Regional Collegiate Series, The Disco Triathlon, on Sunday.
