Let the New Year Begin!

Paragon athletes are starting off the New Year with new goals, new successes, and the same old will to challenge themselves through endurance sports.

This past weekend, Andrew Joy raced off road, over hills and barriers, and through the sand at the Cyclo-cross State Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Joy competed in the Cat 4 race on Saturday and placed 30th. On Sunday, Joy raced again in the U23 race, and here he earned a 4th place finish.

Travis Decker competed in the 6th annual Purgatory Trail Run near San Marcos on Saturday. Decker raced the 10 miler and won second place overall. The run takes place through the San Marcos Greenbelt and benefits the San Marcos High School Cross Country Booster Club.

Several Paragon Training athletes participated in Monica's Mile. This 1-mile swim is a fundraising event for the Now You See Me Foundation (NYSMF) and is in honor of Monica Caban. Caban was a local Ironman triathlete who was struck by a car while on a training ride. To help offset medical expenses and show their support, many swimmers got together and pledged to swim either one hour or one mile straight. Monica's Mile is now an annual giving event, and this year it was held at the Blossom Aquatic Center on Sunday, January 8, 2017. The event continues to benefit adult Learn To Swim programs and the NYSMF, which helps local athletes who have been injured and in need of financial and emotional support. For those that missed the event and would still like to pledge their support, donations can be submitted here.

To round out an exciting weekend, Paragon's USA Swim Club celebrated a New Year at the Wave Into '18 Unclassified Take One meet. Congratulations to all Paragon athletes that brought in the new year with training, racing, and charitable giving.
