March Athlete Spotlight - Meet Kelly McConie!

This month, we're shining the spotlight on Kelly McConie! An avid triathlete for 20 years and counting, she's a registered nurse who always strives to improve her speed - even when taking part in races during vacations. We hope you enjoy getting to know this inspiring athlete as much as we do.

Age: 58

Occupation: Registered Nurse

How long have you been swimming, cycling, running, and/or doing triathlons?

Started with the Dam '09 in 2003. My first 70.3 was in 2010, and first 140.6 was in 2011. Eight full Ironmans including USAT Long Course World Championships in 2016.

What aspects of triathlon do you enjoy most?

I love that it makes me strong enough to not only do triathlons but stand-alone bike and run events as well. My goal is to complete every "Vacation Race".

What has been your favorite training or racing event, and why?

Ironman Arizona is my first and last full Ironman. I just love the venue, the town, the weather, the course--everything.

What is your favorite post-workout or race meal?

Pineapple Protein Shake after training. After a race I want a chocolate milk.

What is one recent accomplishment you are proud of? (race, academic, life goal completed, etc):

I completed my first 50k trail run in 2021 and rode in Vermont for 5 days in September. It was amazing!!

What do you want to be when you grow up? (We're all growing up still!)

Fast. I want to be fast.

What is something no one knows about you?

Once upon a time I was a drummer I was also a sprinter in my younger days and intimidated to run one mile!
